SDH Presents NBA Commissioner David Stern Receives the W.E.B Du Bois Medal

A behind the scenes look as +NBA Commisioner David Stern is awarded the prestigious W.E.B Du Bois Medal at Harvard University on Wednesday, October 2nd. He was one of six honorees, including a White House adviser (Valerie Jarrett), a playwright with a Pulitzer Prize (Tony Kushner), a U.S. representative called "the conscience of Congress" (John Lewis), an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (Sonia Sotomayor), and a Hollywood director with three Oscars (Steven Spielberg).

Stern's award was presented by Hall of Famer Bill Russell, who was also decorated by Harvard, back in 2007, when he received an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Since 2000, the Du Bois Medal has been awarded to individuals in the U.S. and around the world in recognition of their contributions to African and African-American culture and the life of the mind. Recipients have included scholars, artists, writers, journalists, philanthropists, and administrators whose work has bolstered the field of African and African-American studies.
